Fitbod claims to use an AI algorithm to design custom workouts based on your available equipment, past performance, and muscle recovery. As someone focused on building muscle through dedicated pull-day splits, I put its “intelligent” programming to the test.
The “Candid” Take
- AI Logic: Unlike static PDF routines, the AI actually adjusts. If I log a heavy set of weighted pull-ups, the next session intelligently increases the volume or suggests a “deload” if my recovery data (synced from my watch) looks low.
- Exercise Variety: For pull days, it excels at offering alternatives. If the cable rows are taken at the gym, one tap gives me an AI-calculated alternative like a chest-supported dumbbell row that hits the same muscle group.
- The Flaw: The “recovery” algorithm can sometimes be too conservative. It occasionally suggested I skip heavy rows because of a “tired” rating that didn’t match how I actually felt.
The Verdict
4.5/5 Stars. It’s the closest thing to a personal trainer for those who want to automate their muscle-building progression without thinking about the math.
